New advertising campaign
June 16th, 2011 Posted 6:28 pm
We just sent Alby out to earn his keep trying to fill some last minute vacancies that we had tonight. He wasn’t too keen donning his sandwich board but a chocolate biscuit soon sorted him out.
Just for the record, this was a voluntary post and the chocolate biscuit in no way represented payment for this or any other services: this is not child labour, although we did get the idea from a Jeremy Vine phone in on slave labour.
Anyway, I better get out there and see how he is getting on. He’s been gone a while.

As seen in Trail magazine!
May 10th, 2011 Posted 9:35 pm
I was in the hostel lounge this evening waiting for a guest – she’d run outside to tell her husband how awesome it is here and that she wants to stay the night – whilst waiting I picked up a copy of Trail magazine that was laying on one of the coffee tables, I lazily flicked through the pages and saw this…..

From now on all our advertising is going to say “As featured in Trail magazine”…I may of course forget to mention that the magazine was from 2003! The full article can be found here (unless the nice people at Trail magazine tell us to remove it).

We are open (and looking good!)
February 10th, 2011 Posted 10:24 am
We are finally open after the burst pipes we got for Christmas, it’s been a lot of hard work (isn’t January supposed to be a quiet month?) but while the builders were in fixing ceilings and floors we took the opportunity to get lots of other jobs done….we think it was worth the effort and hope you do too when you see it.
A couple of snaps for you (click for bigger)….
Anyway, it’ll soon be busy season….see you soon!

Currently closed for repairs
January 6th, 2011 Posted 12:02 pm
Just a quick post to let you know we have suffered some water damage from burst pipes over the Christmas period but we hope to be up and running by mid Februart. If you haven’t heard from us about an existing booking you should assume that your booking is ok and we’ll be up and running before you are due to arrive. We are still here ready to take your booking for later in the year…unless we are downstairs decorating!
Happy New Year,
Matt and Jenny

Kitchen Refurbishment
December 19th, 2010 Posted 3:36 pm
I’ve finally finished putting together the video we made while we redecorated the kitchen, I’ve made it nice and short for you (I missed out the two days of painting) so you don’t get too bored watching it…if only it was this quick to do in real life!
And heres a couple of panoramic photos to show you properly (click for bigger)…
Hope you like it as much as we do!

Jen goes potty

This weekend I had a very rare treat indeed – a weekend off, with two full days of pottery with Penny at Pen’s Pots in Aviemore. I have been enjoying messing about on my own kick-wheel but was definitely in need of some instruction so having a trip up to Penny’s to get some expert tips was just what I needed. There were 6 of us on the weekend course, all looking forward to making some unique creations. Day one was spent getting used to wedging and throwing our clay, and by the end of the afternoon I had made two bowls, one of which I was very pleased with, a rather dodgy vase and the beginnings of a teapot, which although tricky was looking very promising. The morning of day two was spent tidying up and finishing our work from day one, it all having dried out nicely. I must admit to holding my breath a few times whilst adding the handle, spout and lid to my perfectly formed teapot body, but managed to finish it all off without making too many mistakes. I will have to wait a few weeks for Penny to fire and glaze the pots but meanwhile check out the pictures below for a flavour of the weekend:
Penny looked after us all fantastically and between us we came up with a huge range of creations, from cheese domes and christmas decorations to vases, mugs, jugs and teapots, all thanks to the expert guidance from Penny. Thanks must also go to Ann for helping provide a fantastic lunch spread on both days, helping to sustain us through our afternoon pot-making sessions. I now have no excuse to get practicing by myself and turning out some half-decent creations for Christmas!

European Advertising Campaign
October 23rd, 2010 Posted 10:38 am
We’ve not been up to much blogworthy recently, we’ve been busy with either DIY or family and friends visiting (they don’t like to come up in summer as they end up making beds!) but we have found time to branch out with our advertising, well, kind of…
My big brother and official Team Invergarry Lodge runner Mark was heading across to Italy for the Lake Garda Marathon and he donned an Team Invergarry running vest for the occasion.
He did us proud with a sub 4 hour time and apparently there were even “Invergarry Lodge” chants from the crowds – I don’t get chants when I run round the forest – maybe I should run faster? Anyway, thanks Mark and well done.

Bowled over at Invergarry Lodge!
September 10th, 2010 Posted 8:24 am
It’s been a busy old time up here at Invergarry Lodge lately – along with the usual bed making we have got ourselves some new chickens which meant a having to build a new and improved house to fit them all in. Jenny has also been very busy making a big list of jobs to keep us busy over the winter months, and then there’s Alby who insists on being taken out in his bike seat every afternoon.
It’s not all work, work, work though, we have managed to find a little bit of time to make a few things….Jenny has been busy on the potters wheel whenever she gets a chance – her pots finally arrived back from Aviemore and they look fantastic!
I’ve also managed to find a bit of time to myself and have been sneaking off and have a play on my lathe, still a lot to learn but I’ve been having lots of fun practicing…
I think the next thing to make will be some shelves – so we have somewhere to put all these bowls!
