We've some great local walks, here are our top suggestions: Glengarry Forest **Jen's Favourite** Coloured waymarkers guide you along paths of various lengths round the local forest. Follow the stunning river Garry or head up a short but steep hill to see the Allt na Calliche waterfall and views of Glen Garry. Time: 1 - 1.5 hours. Loch Oich ** Matt's Favourite** Park at the historic Bridge of Oich and head along a short stretch of canal to the head of Loch Oich - a great view down the Great Glen and superb sunsets in the shorter months. Then continue as far as you like along the Great Glen Way - can you make it all the way round? Time: As long as you like but 4.5 - 6 hours for all the way round. Caledonian Canal Park as above at the Bridge of Oich but head north east along the tranquil Caledonian canal. Watch as the boats chug by and navigate the locks in the summer months. Time: As long as you like, about 6 miles (one way) if you go all the way to Fort Augustus (and the Caledonian Canal visitor centre). Loch Ness View Point A fairly short there-and-back from the hostel along part of the Great Glen Way, you'll be rewarded with fine views of the Great Glen and Loch Ness in the distance. A great spot for lunch. Time: 1 - 1.5 hours. Aucterawe **Jen's Other Favourite** The nursery walk - a bit further afield a serene and peaceful forest awaits you for short marked walks - unless you fancy tackling the permanent orienteering courses they have set up in the woods. Time: 1 hour. Loch Lundie Park at the west end of the village opposite the community centre near the old village shop. Head through the gate and the green lane between the two cottages. Follow the lane through mixed woodland past the little lochan and views over your sholder to Ben Tee. Continue a little further to the boat house for fine views across Loch Lundie to the windfarm or continue further where the views open up. Return the same way or continue to the Bridge of Oich for a much longer walk. Time: 1 - 1.5 hours. For more information on walks in the area - visit Walkhighlands.com.
